Florida, Colorado & New Mexico

I don’t even know how to describe my feelings I had on my way to the airport. I had been dreaming a long time to visit United States of America, Florida, Miami. I used to watch CSI Miami when I was young and Miami seemed all so far, expensive, unapproachable for me. It felt so unbelievable that I am actually on my way to Miami. Besides Florida I also visited Colorado and New Mexico states. All of these three states are so different from one another.

In Florida stated I visited Miami and Orlando.

Florida osariigis käisin Miamis ja Orlandos.

In Miami I went to:

  • The Bayside Market, which is like a bigger brother for our Balti Jaam. The Bayside Market is right  next to the sea. There are many different shops, restaurants, cafes. You can buy different cruise tickets from there. I also ate a Cuban sandwich there. I recommend to try it in Miami.

Miamis külastasin:

  • Bayside turgu, mis on meie Balti Jaama suurem vend, asub kohe mere ääres. Seal on palju erinevaid poode, restorane, kohvikuid. Seal on võimalik osta ka erinevate laevaekskursioonide pileteid. Bayside turul sõin ka Kuuba võileiba, mida soovitan kindlasti proovida Miamis olles!IMG_0285IMG_0289IMG_0369.JPG
  • Little Havana neighborhood. This neighborhood is home to many Cuban exiles, as well as many immigrants from Central and South America. It is named after Havana, the capital city of Cuba. There are many Latin American restaurants. My favorites were Pollo Tropical what is specialized in Carribean food; Azucar Ice Cream Company, where I recommend to try granny Maria or Abuela Maria ice cream. This ice cream has a special ingredient which is the good old Maria cookies. In this neighborhood you will also find Latin artist’s walk of fame.
  • Little Havana linnaosa. See on Kuuba mõjutustega linnaosa, kus enamus elanikke on latiinod. Seal leidub palju Ladina-Ameerika restorane. Minu lemmikuteks olid Pollo Tropical, mis on Kariibide toitudele spetsialiseerinud restoran, ja Azucar Ice Cream Company, kus soovitan kindlasti proovida Vanaema Maria ehk Abuela Maria jäätist. Jäätise teeb eriliseks koostisosa, milleks on vanad head Maria küpsised. Linnaosast leiab ka Ladina artistide walk of fame ehk “kuulsuste tähed”. IMG_1507IMG_0360IMG_0365IMG_0368IMG_1464IMG_0366IMG_1465IMG_1467IMG_1468IMG_1478IMG_1480IMG_1504IMG_1505IMG_1506
  • Miami beach where I witnessed one of the most beautiful sunrises.
  • Miami Beach randa, kus nägin ka ühte ilusamait päikesetõusu.IMG_1463

  • The Holocaust Memorial and garden what is created by Kenneth Treister. The monument with garden was created to the memory of the Jewish culture and individuals destroyed by the Holocaust. He created a memorial garden that will give survivors and those who lost loved ones a place to visit in lieu of the cemetery they don’t have. Kenneth Treister wished to express, in photographs and sculpture, the history and sorrow of the Holocaust so future generations will never forget.
  • Wynwood art neighborhood, where there are over 70 art galleries, museums and collections. This is one of the largest open-air street art installations in the world.
  • Wynwoodi kunstikvartalit, kus asub üle 70 kunstigalerii, muuseumi ja kollektsiooni. See on üks kõige suuremaid vabaõhu tänavakunsti installatsioone maailmas.IMG_0837IMG_0887IMG_0736IMG_0737IMG_0741IMG_0743IMG_0745IMG_0748IMG_0750IMG_0752IMG_0753IMG_0756IMG_0757

  • NBA basketball game. The game was between Miami Heat and the Toronto Raptors. Seeing an NBA game has been one of my dreams when I was a child. I have seen one NBA team playing against Spanish club, but it was not the same, it was not real game. I was lucky because the home team Miami won the game on extra time. All the spectators got small Miami Heat towels.
  • NBA mängu. Miami Heati ja Toronto Raptors’ite vahel. NBA mängu nägemine oli minu unistus juba lapsena. Ma olen korra Hispaanias näinud NBA tiimi mängimas kohaliku Bilbao tiimiga, aga see ei ole ikka õige NBA mäng 😀 Mul väga vedas mänguga, sest mäng läks lisaajale ja kodumeeskond võitis lõpuks. Kõigile pealtvaatajatele jagati ka Miami Heati rätikud. IMG_1439IMG_0904IMG_1437IMG_1438IMG_0890
  • Vizcaya museum and Gardens. It wasn’t in my travel plan, but a friend of mine recommended me to visit it. At first I was a bit skeptical because I am not that into museums. But this museum was awesome! It really surprised me. It was so beautiful there, the building itself and the gardens around it. It is also called Vizcaya manor and it used to belong to famous businessman James Deering. Villa has a strong Italian renaissance influence. The entrance costs $ 18 for adults, $ 6 for 6-12 years old children. The entrance is free of charge for under six years old kids.
  • Vizcaya muuseumi ja aeda. See polnud algselt minu reisiplaanis, kuid mu sõber soovitas seda külastada. Algul olin pigem skeptiline, sest muuseumid pole minu jaoks. Villa on tugevate Itaalia rensessansi mõjutustega. Muuseumi külastamine maksab täiskasvanule $18, 6-12 aastastele lastele $6 ja alla kuue aastastele tasuta. IMG_1455IMG_1445IMG_1446IMG_1447

In Orlando I went to:

  • Madame Tussauds Museum. I had never been to the wax museum before. I decided to visit the one in Orlando because there were many wax figures of people I like.

Orlandos külastasin:

  • Madam Tussauds muuseumi. Ma pole kunagi varem vahakujude muuseumis käinud. Kuna Orlando muuseumis oli palju selliste inimeste kujusid, kes mulle meeldivad, otsustasin seal ära käia.
  • IMG_3991IMG_3992IMG_4280IMG_4281IMG_4283IMG_4284IMG_4285
  • Sea Life Aquarium. I have visited many different aquarium in different countries. Orlando Aquarium gave me the most memorable experience. In this aquarium you feel like you are inside of it yourself. All around you is in glass, the floor, ceiling, walls. Fish swim 360 degrees around you. I really like sharks, so visiting the Orlando Aquarium was a must go for me. I got a really cool shark necklace from there.
  • Sea Life Akvaariumi. Olen külastanud palju erinevaid akvaariumeid erinevates riikides. Orlando akvaarium on andnud kõige meeldejäävama elamuse. Orlando Sea Life Akvaariumi külastades tunned, et oleksid ise akvaariumi sees. Kõik su ümber on klaasist: põrand, lagi, seinad. Kalad ujuvad 360 kraadi ümber sinu. Kuna ma olen suur haide armastaja oli Orlando Akvaariumi külastuskäik kindlasti  must go. Mälestuseks sain endale väga ägeda hai ripatsiga keti.IMG_3792

In Colorado I visited Durango, Silvertone and Denver.

Durango is a small town in the south of Colorado surrounded by mountains. I got ended up in small cute shops and cafes when walking along the streets. I visited the Railway Museum there, Ska Brewery to taste different beers. I tested my physical shape on the Horse Gulch and Anima River mountain hiking trails. Local people respect local products and waste recycling. Durango is a really cute small American town.

In Colorado there is the smallest percentage of overweight people in America. I think the hiking trails in mountains are reason for this.

Colorados käisin Durangos, Silvertonis ja Denveris.

Durango on väike linnake Colorado lõunaosas mida ümbritsevad igal küljel mäed. Durango on tõeliselt armas Ameerika väikelinn.
Colorados on kõige väiksem protsent ülekaalulisi inimesi Ameerikas. Ma arvan, et selle eest võib tänada kõiki neid matkaradu mägedes.IMG_3081IMG_1872 - CopyIMG_1885 - CopyIMG_1886 - CopyIMG_1893 - CopyIMG_1894 - CopyIMG_1895 - CopyIMG_1896 - CopyIMG_1898 - CopyIMG_1899 - CopyIMG_1900 - CopyIMG_1901 - CopyIMG_1902 - CopyIMG_1903 - CopyIMG_1904 - CopyIMG_2381 - CopyIMG_2382 - CopyIMG_2383 - CopyIMG_2384 - CopyIMG_2385 - CopyIMG_2386 - CopyIMG_2387 - CopyIMG_2388 - CopyIMG_2389 - CopyIMG_2390 - CopyIMG_2391 - CopyIMG_2392 - CopyIMG_2393

We made a short day trip to Silverton. We went there when the tourism season hadn’t started yet, so the town was almost empty and most of the shops and cafes were closed. It was like a ghost town. Silverton town is the historic gold- and silver-mining town. There is a 73.2km long railroad between Silverton and Durango what was built for the carriage of silver and gold from the San Juan Mountains. Nowadays all the mining places are closed and tourists can travel from one city to another by this train.

Silvertoni linn on tekkinud hõbekaevanudsasulana. IMG_2529

Denver was originally not in my travel plans. But since my flight from Albuquerque to Orlando was canceled, I had to take 8 hours bus trip to Denver to take a flight to Orlando on the following night. Denver was really crowded in this weekend because they had 4/20 cannabis day. Because of this all the accommodations were sold out or very very expensive. Fortunately my good friend Kaisa, has a good friend in Denver, and I was able to crash on her couch for a night. Thank you so much girls! Thanks to this I had local guide in Denver who showed me the city and took me eat sweet donuts with bacon at Voodoo Doughnout place. This was really original, interesting and funny place. The queue to Voodoo Doughnout was so long, it was crazy. We stayed at the queue for at least 20 minutes, maybe even longer. Voodoo Doughnut was created by two friends who had no idea how to cook donuts but went to learn that from the masters. At the moment it is only in six cities in America. There are donuts with really all kind of shapes and taste. Most extreme is maple syrup donut with bacon.

See on täiesti omapärane, huvitav, huumoriga koht. Järjekord kohviku ukse taga on meeletu. Meie seisime seal vähemalt 20 minutit kui mitte isegi kauem. Voodoo Douhnuti on loodud kahe sõbra poolt, kellel polnud alguses aimugi kuidas sõõrikuid teha, kuid käisid sõõrikumeistrite juures õppimas. Hetkel võib kohviku leida vaid kuues Ameerika linnast. Seal leiab tõesti iga suguse maitse ja välimusega sõõrikuid. Kõige ekstreemsem muidugi vahtrasiirupi sõõrik peekoniga.

Colorado is the first state where according to the Constitution cannabis using is legalized for relaxing purposes. According to the law all people over 21 years can grow up to six cannabis plants in a privately-held location, legally hold marijuana from cannabis plants and give it to others who are more than 21 years old. Perhaps this is the reason why so many people have moved to Colorado in recent years. About 60% of Colorado residents come from other states.

Colorado on esimene osariik kus põhiseaduse järgi on lõõgastaval eesmärgil kanepi tarbimine legaalne. Seega võivad seaduse järgi alates 21-aastased osariigi elanikud kasvatada kuni kuut kanepitaime privaatselt lukustatud asukohas, legaalselt omada kanepitaimedest pärit marihuaanat ning anda seda edasi teistele vähemalt 21-aastastele. Võib-olla on just see põhjuseks miks viimastel aastatel on paljud inimesed just Coloradosse kolinud. Umbes 60% Colorado elanikest on pärit teistest osariikidest.IMG_2533[1]In New Mexico I visited Santa Fe and Albuquerque and the Aztec ruins.

Santa Fe‘s käisime Meow Wolfis. Meow Wolf on üks suur fantaasiakunstinäitus. IMG_2993IMG_3004IMG_3060IMG_3066IMG_3079IMG_3091IMG_3092IMG_3095IMG_3096I have heard that Albuquerque is one of the most dangerous cities in the United States, because of all the homeless people living there. Most of the homeless people from Colorado go to Albuquerque in New Mexico for winter because it is a bit warmer place. 9 o’clock at night it was already so dark there and we were looking for a place to eat in Albuquerque downtown. I felt very uncomfortable and unsafe there. There were so many strange people, one of the main streets was surrounded by police and I heard police flashing lights. People spoke to themselves, moved their body weirdly.. one man threw a bottle towards our car. I am not sure if I overthought things or no, but I was really afraid there. The next day I read from the news that the street what was closed by the police there was a shooting and one man died and another one was in the hospital. And another news that the people who got hit by car wasn’t an accident it was on purpose. But despite of all this the food in New Mexico is awesome!

Ma olen kuulnud, et Albuquerque on üks ohtlikumaid Ameerika linnu, sest seal elab palju kodutuid. New Mexicos on talvel veidi soojem kui Colorados, siis paljud Colorado kodutud inimesed lähevad talvituma just Albuquerquesse. Kuid sellest olenemata on New Mexicos väga hea söök…IMG_3101
