Missouri, Illinois ja Kansas

I just got back from my second trip to the United Stated of America. This time I visited Chicago in Illinois, Kansas City in Missouri and the sunflower farm in the Reno area in Kansas. The trip was short, but during that time I saw so many beautiful and interesting places and that made me feel as the trip was much longer.

Saabusin just oma teiselt Ameerika Ühendriikide reisilt.

About 15 years ago I had a pen-friend from America who once sent me a postcard of the skyscrapers in Chicago. Since then, Chicago has been on my list of the places I want to visit together with the Chicago Willis Tower Skydeck. I got goosebumps already when I saw those skyscrapers from the plane.

The first night I stayed at the motel near to the airport. The motel’s room doors opened directly onto the street, without any corridor protecting. After seeing all those CSI and NCIS TV series I was quite afraid to be there 😀 I checked at least five times to be sure that the door is locked, ha ha. The first night I wasn’t able to sleep almost at all. In addition to the 8 hour time difference there were airplanes flying over the motel what made really loud noise. I have to remember to avoid accommodation close to the airports next time. The noise is too loud. But I really liked to watch those planes flying over in the next morning.

Lisaks -8 tunnisele ajavahele, segas magamist ka üle motelli lendavad lennukid. Pean meelde jätma, et edaspidi võimalusel vältida lennujaama läheduses olevaid majutusasutusi. Müra on lihtsalt kohutavalt vali. Samas, järgmisel hommikul uuesti lennujaama minekut oodates, meeldis mulle vaadata ja kuulata ülelendavaid lennukeid.

In Chicaco I visited:

Bombo Bar – a donut café with the best donuts I have had so far. The interesting thing about this place is that when you order some kind of flavored donut, the jam is in a separate tube and you can squeeze it on your donut. I also tried their milk cocktail, which was beautifully decorated too. Unfortunately, the cocktail itself was too sweet for me.

Skydeck Observation Deck in Willis Tower. Until 1998 it was considered as the world’s tallest building. Nowadays it is the world highest building in one category: from the street level to the end of the antenna masts on the roof. The building is built according to a structure that allows it to be built higher in case of need. The highest antenna peak is 708 meters above sea level and it has 108 floors. Skydeck observation deck is located on the 103rd floor, 493 meters above sea level. The observation platform is the highest in the western hemisphere. I recommend to visit it right after opening, because the amount of people who want to visit it increases with every minute and the queues will be long. The view itself is amazing, all those skyscrapers.. Going on the glass platform may seem scary, before me there were many people who were too afraid and didn’t step on the glass floor.

Willis Toweri Skydecki vaateplatvormi. Kuni 1998. aastani loeti seda maailma kõrgeimaks hooneks. Tänapäeval on see maailma kõrgeim hoone ühes kategoorias: maapinnalt katusel olevate antennimastide tipuni. Skydecki vaateplatvorm asub 103. korrusel, 493 meetri kõrgusel merepinnast. Vaateplatvorm on kõige kõrgem läänepoolkeral, maailmas jääb alla vaid Shangai Maailma Kaubanduskeskusele.

Millennium Park – this is probably the biggest tourism sight in the city. The park is green recreation area with its interesting sculptures, fountains, large children’s playground. The most well-known and most photographed statue is Cloud Gate with the nickname The bean. It is a large metal monument that reflects everything around it. Cool photos can be taken both in sunny and cloudy weather. There is also The Crown fountain, Jay Pritzker Pavilion and BP pedestrian bridge in the park.

Millennium parki – see on ilmselt üks linna suurimaid vaatamisväärsusi. Park on suur roheline puhkeala. Pargis leiab huvitavaid skulptuure, purskkaevusid, suure laste mänguväljaku. Kõige tuntum ja enim pildistatud on Cloud gate hüüdnimega The Bean ehk uba. Pargis on veel The Crown purskkaev; Jay Pritzkeri paviljon, BP jalakäijate sild.

I tried the famous Chicago-style hotdog, which is topped with yellow mustard, chopped white onions, bright green sweet pickle relish, a dill pickle spear, tomato slices, pickled sport peppers and dash of celery salt. The ketchup is unacceptable

I tried the ice cream rose at Amorino ice cream café. You can choose as many different ice cream tastes as you want. The ice cream looks really interesting and effective. The taste is even better!

Since I really like skyscrapers, I just walked around in the city and photographed almost all the buildings. Chicago is definitely a very modern and fancy city, where the churches are next to high skyscrapers. One of the reason of its modernity is certainly that in 1871 most of the building were destroyed by a major fire. The first lasted three days and burned one third of the city, including the entire city center.

Kuna mulle meeldivad väga pilvelõhkujad, siis linnas ringi jalutades vaatasin ja pildistasin ammuli suuga peaaegu kõiki maju. Chicago on kindlasti väga modernne ja uhke linn, kus vähe vanemate kirikute kõrval laiuvad kõrged pilvelõhkujad. Modernsuse üks põhjusi on kindlasti see, et 1871. aastal hävitas suur tulekahju enamik linna hooneid. Tulekahju kestis kolm päeva ning selle käigus põles maha kolmandik linnast, sealhulgas kogu linna keskosa.XKRU5020AAEV5849Processed with VSCO with f2 presetCKTF1199DGEU6781EFOD5442FFKV4867HIOZ8049Processed with VSCO with f2 presetHPKK1963IMG_9808LSVZ4421Processed with VSCO with g3 presetProcessed with VSCO with f2 presetSPEJ6456TNSU5993WBED4441Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

In the 1920 . Chicago became famous for its crime rate. Al Capone was the most well-known gangsters in the city and thanks to him the city was known as a city where the laws does not apply. Many of the souvenirs are with Al Capone’s picture.

1920. aastatel sai Chicago tuntuks kuritegevuse poolest. Linna kõige tuntum gängster oli Al Capone, tänu temale tunti Chicagot linnana, kus seadused ei kehti. Paljud suveniirid on just Al Capone pildiga.

In Kansas City I visited:

Union Station which was built in early 1914 with a waiting room for up to 10,000 passengers. There are shops and restaurants in the railway station. The railway station building is very beautiful inside and as well outside and is one of the city’s main attractions.

Kansas Citys külastasin:

Union Stationi. See on ehitatud juba 1914 aastal, ooteruum on mõledud kuni 10 000 reisijale. IMG_8924[1]WAXF0921[1]Processed with VSCO with f2 presetProcessed with VSCO with g3 presetIMG_9022QQMZ0912

World War I museum and monument. The monument was built in honor of those who served and died in the war. There are two separate sections in the museum, one of them focuses on the beginning of World War I and the second part on when the United Stated joined the war. The museum’s collection is one of the largest in the world, containing over 70,000 objects. The top of the monument tower you will see a panoramic view over Kansas City. The entrance to the museum costs 16USD, and 5 USD to visit just the tower. If you want to visit both of them you have to pay 18USD.

Muuseumis on kaks eraldi osa. Üks keskendub Esimese maailmasõja algusele ja teine osa sellele, kui Ameerika Ühendriigid liitusid sõjaga. Muuseumi kogumik on üks suurimaid maailmas, sisaldades üle 70 000 objekti. Mälestusmärgi torni tipust avaneb suurepärane vaade Kansas Cityle. Muuseumi pilet maksab 16 USD, ainult torni külastamine 5 USD. Kui külastada mõlemat, tuleb maksta 18 USD.LCOU9933UCSZ4806XHNK5443Processed with VSCO with g3 presetProcessed with VSCO with g3 presetIMG_8997YGWT1390

There is also an observation deck on the roof of the museum with a beautiful view of the city. It is free of charge to visit this.

Muuseumi nii-öelda katusel on ka lihtsalt vaateplatvorm, kus avaneb ilus vaade linnale. Selle külastamine on tasuta.

Kansas City Royals Baseball Club Game at Kauffman Stadium. It is possible to visit just the stadium too, but I decided to go there to see the game. Visiting a baseball game was in my bucket list, because it seems to be “so American”, in almost every American movie has something to do with baseball. I chose a fan ticket, which was 3 dollars more expensive than the standard ticket, but it also included a home team shirt. The game itself was not that exciting.

Kansas City Royals pesapalli klubi mängu Kauffman staadionil. Staadionit on võimalik külastada ka niisama, kuid mina otsustasin minna sinna just mängu vaatama. Mäng ise pole just kõige põnevam 😀

Kansas City murals. There are many different murals across the city with different letters, colors and styles.

Kansas City “seinu”. Üle linna on paljude erinevate kirjadega, värvidega, stiiliga seinu, mis on ägedad pildistamise kohad.

Made in KC Marketplace – Kansas City Products Market. There are different souvenirs, interesting bars and cafes. It is so cool how all the universities, cities, sports teams, cafes, bars, restaurants etc promote themselves in America. For almost all the things they have their own shirts, stickers, magnets, cups, thermoses, etc etc.

Made in KC Marketplace – Kansas City toodete turgu.  Sealt leiab teistmoodi suveniire, huvitavad baarid ja kohvikud. See on nii äge kuidas Ameerikas promotakse kõiki oma ülikoole, linnu, sporditiime, kohvikuid, baare, restorane jne. Pea iga asja kohta on neil oma särgid, kleepsud, magnetid, tassid, termosed jne jne.

Fountains – Kansas City’s nickname is the city of fountains. There are over 200 fountains in the city. One more beautiful than others.

Purskkaevusid. Kansas City hüüdnimi on purskkaevude linn. Linnas on üle 200 purskkaevu. Üks ilusam kui teine.

I went to the movie theater to see a movie called “The Happytime murders”. The chairs in the cinema were so comfortable that I fell asleep there, haha. The film itself was funny, but just the chairs were too comfortable. There are like armchairs where you can let the backrest down and put up the footrest so you basically just like there. The popcorn was delicious too and it was possible to add liquid butter on it. At first I really liked it, but later on the butter taste was too strong.

Käisin kinos “The Happytime murders ehk Nukusaate mõrvad” filmi vaatamas.

I also managed to visit Ted Grinter Sunflower Fields in Kansas. This year was very dry there, so the field was not so full of sunflowers as in previous years, but it still looked really beautiful. It is possible to make an amazing tourist sight out of nothing – just grow some sunflowers 😀 There were around 30 people looking and photographing the flowers. And it is all totally free! It is possible to walk around on the field and take photos. There are donation boxes where you can leave a symbolic fee. If you want to cut sunflower then the symbolic fee for one flower is one dollar. Since there were not so many flowers this year, there was a sign that the owners ask not to cut flowers. Kansas state is also called as Sunflower state which fits very well. Sunflower fields are really worth seeing!

Päevalillepõllud on tõesti vaatamisväärt!BEDY7757.JPGIMG_9261IMG_9265IMG_9271IMG_9427IMG_9428
